The Smittens are a hard-working globe-trotting independent American twee pop band from Burlington, Vermont who like to think of themselves as friends first and open-hearted indiepop revolutionaries after that. Max Andrucki, Colin Clary, Dana Kaplan, Holly Chagnon, and David Zacharis switch up instruments, song-writing, and singing to create brilliantly lyrical and hyper-catchy pop songs of all shapes and sizes. Preferring to do it themselves, The Smittens record their own music while David creates the distinctive artwork that graces the bands fliers and album covers, Dana and Max book the tours, and the whole gang work hard to share their contagious optimism with their fans near and far. Formed on a whim at a party in 2002 by group of popkids who wanted to make for their friends the kind of music they love, the Smittens have emerged in 2010 as one of the country’s best-loved underground indiepop quintets, somehow managing over the course of 3 full-length albums and a handful compilation appearances and singles to mature without actually growing up! As fixture on the international indiepop festival circuit with multiple appearances at the Indietracks festival, Athens Popfest, NYC Popfest, Popfest New England, San Francisco Popfest, London Popfest, and the Cosy Den Festival in Stockholm, the Smittens have been bringing their cool sounds to new fans every chance they get. This spring the Smittens are doing a short tour on the east coast before heading back to Europe this summer for their most ambitious adventure yet! Currently at work on their 4th studio album, the band has a few new tracks coming out on compilations in the near future and a remix ep due out this summer on London’s Odd Box Records.
